Protect You and Your Friends from a “Worm” Type Virus

As you may know, when/if a worm virus gets into your computer, it heads straight for your email address book, and sends itself to everyone you have listed, thus infecting your family, friends and associates.   This trick won't keep the virus from getting into your computer, but it will stop it from using your address book to spread further, and it will alert you to the fact that the worm has gotten into your system.

 Here's what you should do:
First, open your email address book and click on 'new contact,' just as you would do if you were adding a new contact to your list of email addresses.
In the window where you would type the person’s first name, type in 'A'
For the screen name or email address, type aaaaa@aaa.aaa

Now, this is what will happen:
The 'name 'A' will be placed at the top of your address book as entry #1.
This will be the first entry the worm will see.
When it tries to send itself to aaaaa@aaa.aaa, it will be undeliverable, because of the phony email address you entered.
If the “worm’s” first attempt fails, which it will because of the phony address, the worm goes no further and your friends will not be infected.

When the “worm’s email to A \ aaaaa@aaa.aaa fails, you will receive a notification that the email to A \ aaaaa@aaa.aaa was undeliverable.   If you ever get this email notice, you know right away that you have the worm virus in your system and can take steps to get rid of it!

If everybody you know does this, then you need not ever worry about opening mail from family, friends and associates on your list.

COOKING SAFETY:

Microwaved water and other liquids do not always “bubble” when heated to the boiling point.   While they actually get superheated, they may not bubble at all.  What happens is, the water heats faster than the vapor bubbles can form.  If the cup is very new, it is unlikely to have small surface scratches inside it that provide a place for the bubbles to form.   As the bubbles cannot form and release some of the heat has built up, the liquid does not boil, and the liquid continues to heat up well past its boiling point.  It may also occur when heating a small amount of liquid (less than half a cup).    Then without warning the superheated liquid may “explode” out of the cup when it is moved or when something like a spoon or tea bag is put into it, causing serious physical injury in the form of 2nd and 3rd degree burns.   To prevent this from happening, do not heat small quantities of liquids, heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup.   Placing a non-metallic item in the cup, such as a wooden stir stick, to diffuse the energy will prevent theis from happening.   After heating a liquid, let the cup stand in the microwave for thirty seconds, before moving it or adding anything into it.

FIRE SAFETY:

Before the Fire
• Choose an extinguisher that will work on all types of fires.   These are usually called “ABC” type extinguishers.
• Choose the largest extinguisher you can handle – bigger is better.
• Read all the directions.   Know how to use an extinguisher.
• Get training from your local fire department & practice putting out a fire.
• Keep the instructions so you can review them from time to time.
• Mount the extinguisher near an exit door, out of reach of children.
• Consider having an extinguisher available in every room.

Fighting a Small Fire
• Make sure everyone else is leaving the home.
• Ask someone to call the fire department from outside.
• If the fire is small and not spreading, quickly get your extinguisher.
• Start with your back to the exit, making sure the fire does not block your escape  Stand 6 -8 feet away from the fire.
• PULL the pin out to unlock the operating lever.
• AIM low, pint the extinguisher nozzle (or hose) at the base of the fire.
• SQUEEZE the handle to release the extinguishing agent.
• Be prepared!   Hold the extinguisher tightly.   It will come out with force.
• SWEEP from side to side, moving carefully toward the fire.
• Keep the extinguisher aimed at the base of the fire, sweeping back and forth until all the flames are out.
• Watch the fire area.   If the fire re-ignites, repeat the process.

Cooking Fire
• If you have a small pan fire on the stove, put on an oven mitt.
• Turn off the heat at the burner.
• Carefully slide a cookie sheet over the pan.   A lid can also be used.
This cuts off the oxygen and allows the fire to go down.
• Leave the pan covered and in place.   Do not try to move it.
• Let the pan cool down before you take away the cookie sheet or lid.
• Do not use a regular “ABC” fire extinguisher if a pan on your stove catches on fire. These can spread the fire or tip the burning pan over.
• There are extinguishers specifically designed for grease fires which should be available nears your stove.
• Stand back about 4 feet from the stove.
• Aim the spray can at the base of the flames and spray onto them.
• Spray until the flames go out and you have completely smothered the source of the fire.
• Turn off the heat at the burner.
• Leave the pan in place until it has completely cooled.

Safety
• If you are not sure or have never used an extinguisher, your safest choice is to get everyone out and call the fire department.
• If the fire does not go out quickly, or if you feel at risk in any way, leave immediately and let the fire department handle it.

After a Fire

• Even if you believe the fire is out, have the fire department inspect your home to look for hidden hot spots that could flare up later.

Squeak-proof your wipers by rubbing them with alcohol!   Wipe the wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia.  This can make badly streaking and squeaking wipers change to near perfect silence and clarity.
